WS4D @ IETF80

February 21st, 2011

In January, the Internet Architecture Board announced the ‘Interconnecting Smart Objects with the Internet Workshop‘ to be held in conjunction with the IETF80 in Prague. While the workshop requires a selection of participants, the additional held ‘Tutorial on Interconnecting Smart Objects with the Internet’ is open for everyone. WS4D will join both the workshop and the tutorial. So feel free to join the tutorial and meet the strange IETF folk in Prague!

Background: WS4D participates in the IETF mainly in the 6LoWPAN and CoRE working groups, published I-Ds about DPWS for 6LoWPAN and SOAP over CoAP and has developed WS4D-uDPWS, an Open Source DPWS stack for mote class devices.

WS4D-uDPWS SpO2 Sensor over 6LoWPAN and Remote Android App in Action

February 11th, 2011

This is nerdy! We will present our SpO2 sensor running WS4D-uDPWS over 6LoWPAN on an AVR Raven at Cebit 2011 in Hannover. Here is the preview:

Meet WS4D @ embedded world 2011

January 25th, 2011

The University of Rostock exhibits on the embedded world in Nürnberg (01.03. – 03.03.2011) and promotes WS4D technologies to overcome the problems of the heterogeneous hardware structure with advanced cross domain solutions. See the “Internet of Things” and make your first experiences with WS4D. We will present you:

  • A complete overview about the WS4D technologies and its potentials for the creation of smart cross domain systems.
  • Advanced software toolkits for WS4D development with C/C++ and Java.
  • The WS4D-PipesBox tool for the easy graphical creation of device ensembles and service mashups.

We will demonstrate the power and  simplicity of WS4D in the domain of Home Automation (Smart Objects, digitalStrom).

Miscellaneous contacts already have been established and hopefully more potentials partners from industry and for research will follow during the following days. Come and see the live demonstration of the WS4D capabilities and meet the team. Visit us at Hall 11, 11-128 with the exhibit “WS4D – Web Services for Devices – Cross domain technology for smart systems.

Meet WS4D @ CeBIT 2011 in Hannover

January 20th, 2011

Like ever year, WS4D will exhibit at the CEBIT in Hannover (01.-05.03.2011). You will find our booth at Hall 9, Stand C09. You already know WS4D? But surely you have never seen our newest development WS4D-uDPWS in action! You don’t know WS4D? Come to our booth and make your first experiences with WS4D!

  • We will present the world wide first SpO2 sensor based on WS4D-uDPWS
  • We will give an overview about the WS4D technology and answer all questions
  • We will present advanced software toolkits for WS4D development
  • We will demonstrate the capabilities of WS4D and WS4D-Pipes

You can find more information also in our handouts in English and in German.

WS4D@TeKoMed

November 25th, 2010

The TeKoMed project evaluates the deployment of Service-oriented Architectures also in medical applications like operating-rooms. DPWS is the core technology, of course. From 23.-24.11. the 2nd TeKoMed workshop was held in Luebeck and the WS4D folk was represented strong there. Main discussions were around security of patients data, which is a significant challenge and a major requirement in medical applications. But also semantic concerns and discussions about moral and ethical issues like the ‘best DPWS framework’ have been raised. So the variety of topics lead to fruitful discussions.
There will be two more workshops of the TeKoMed project so stay tuned and feel free to join!

WS4D@ITEA Symposium Ghent

November 2nd, 2010

This years’ ARTEMIS & ITEA Co-Summit, was held at the ICC, International Convention Center, in Ghent, Belgium. And of course WS4D was there presenting their contribution to the OSAMI project. Beside several cool stuff like OSAMI device integration and remote services for OSGi, in Ghent also the WS4D-uDPWS stack was in action. See the small black box below in the pictures with a prototype consisting of an Atmel AVR Raven and a Corscience SpO2 Sensor. On the Raven board WS4D-uDPWS is running providing a DPWS interface for the SpO2 sensor. And yes, this is DPWS over 6LoWPAN!

WS4D @ Web of Things Workshop in Mannheim

May 3rd, 2010

The First International Workshop on the Web of Things (WoT 2010) this year in Mannheim was held in conjunction with  PerCom 2010. It was a great event with highly fruitful discussions about future smart cooperating objects, characterized by tremendous resource constraints. Nevertheless, the trend towards 6LoWPAN (see http://tools.ietf.org/wg/6lowpan/ and http://www.ipso-alliance.org/) is gaining in momentum. During WoT there were of course also nice presentation about DPWS and WS4D related stuff like the WS4D port for SunSpots. For a complete program overview visit the WoT 2010 website. Let’s hope for a WoT 2011 and many more papers about the cool stuff around DPWS!

5th International IEEE Workshop SOCNE 2010

November 26th, 2009

Again, we are participating in the preparation of the annual IEEE SOCNE workshop. The 5th International IEEE Workshop on Service Oriented Architectures in Converging Networked Environments (SOCNE’10) will take place in Perth (Australia) from April 20-23 2010. SOCNE encourages communication and exchange of ideas between industrial and academic researchers in the field of service-oriented architectures. Important knowledge about future emerging directions for middleware, network infrastructures, and self-organizing software/service architectures will be addressed. For the first time, the workshop will also consider tracks on cloud computing and  embedded systems. SOCNE will be hosted in conjunction with the IEEE 24nd International Conference on Advanced Information Networking and Applications (AINA-10).

You can find more information on SOCNE 2010 and past events at http://www.socne.org.

4th International IEEE Workshop on SOCNE’09

November 6th, 2008

Dr. Frank Golatowski is organizing the 4th International IEEE Workshop on Service Oriented Architectures in Converging Networked Environments (SOCNE’09) which will take place in Bradford (UK) from May 26-29, 2009. This IEEE workshop encourages communication and exchanging of ideas between industrial and academic researchers and developers in the field of service-oriented architectures, their design and engineering process as well as their deployment for application prototypes. Important knowledge about future emerging directions for middleware, network infrastructures and self-organizing software/service architectures will be addressed. This time a special track on service oriented approaches in eHealth appliances was added.
SOCNE is held in conjunction with the IEEE 22nd International Conference on Advanced Information Networking and Applications (AINA-08), Bradford, United Kingdom.
